Lawson Lemley
The Fearfully and Wonderfully made organization had not yet come into existence when we went through our NICU journey, but I am so glad that they are able to be there for so many new NICU parents now. We had never been close to anyone who had gon through a NICU stay so it was hard to explain to friends and family exactly what we were feeling. To have the support from someone that understands exactly what you are going through as a parent with a baby in the NICU would have been such a comfort to us during that time. I’m so thankful to Katie and her family for starting Fearfully and Wonderfully Made and being there to support and love on the NICU families in our community .
Our NICU journey started on September 5th,2016. Lawson Ray Lemley came into this world at 25 weeks and 3 days gestation weighing 1 lb 15 oz and 13 1/4 inches long. He spent 105 days in the NICU at CHRISTUS St. Michaels. For us the NICU journey was definitely a roller coaster. Lawson had a grade 4 brain bleed that resulted in us being flown to Dallas for a VP shunt surgery and a week stay two months into our journey. And even though most probably think that the NICUs in Dallas would have better care than our small town, I can tell you that we could not wait to get back home to our NICU, our nurses, and Dr.Keeney. We were so blessed to have the best nurses that not only gave our little miracle the best care and love, but also supported us and loved on us daily. We are forever grateful to everyone that cared for our sweet boy and got so attached to one angel of a nurse she became a best friend and Lawson’s Aunt Miranda.
Life with a preemie doesn’t slow down once you are released from the NICU. Our years have been filled with therapy appts, doctor appts , and surgeries. Lawson is now 8 years old and thriving . He still has his obstacles to overcome, but we are so thankful that he is ours and we get to see a living miracle every day.
